To ensure all current building regulations were adhered to, fire protection within the loft space had to be designed to accommodate bats at one of the most romantic houses in Great Britain.

Combe House is set within its own estate 1 mile from Gittisham, once described by Prince Charles as "The Ideal English Village" The house is a Grade 1 listed Elizabethan Manor House which has recently undertaken a restoration of its original Georgian Kitchen

To ensure all current building regulations were adhered to, fire protection within the loft space had to be designed to accommodate residents of another kind, Bats! Small eared horseshoe bats are the residents and have been since anybody can remember.

The protection of both human occupants and the bats was a tricky problem to solve.

The need for protection in the case of a fire and compartments in the loft space for the bats to travel was paramount in the choice of materials and their use.

The combination of two products was needed to help ensure both fire protection of the building and the protection of the resident bats.

Envirograf Product 57 vertical 60 minute fire barrier curtain and a thin wall curtain fire damper was needed to act as a bulwark in the roof space to prevent the spread of fire.

The compartment size needed to be 390mmx390mm so that the bats can fly from one area of the loft space to the other and only closing upon a rise in extreme temperature.
