Fire Protection For Bats
To ensure all current building regulations were adhered to, fire protection within the loft space had to be designed to accommodate bats at one of the most romantic houses in Great Britain.
The voyages up and down the Thames provide many disabled people, who often feel isolated and forgotten, with a fulfilling and enjoyable leisure and learning experience.
The "Venturer" is also used for much needed respite for carers and environmental education activities for children.
It is equipped with a galley and berths, so residential trips can be organised for passengers and crew to spend several nights on board.
With the range of activities and facilities for a variety of age groups and disabilities that the boat offers, the need for a comprehensive fire and safety policy procedure is vital if a disaster is to be avoided.
Miranda Jaggers, Project Manager for The River Thames Boat Project contacted Technical Fire Consultant, Andy Wahts of Fire Prevention Products (London) for advice on how to ensure that the charity could comply with new safety regulations, especially around the engine room area, which are being introduced.
Andy suggested the use of Envirograf Product 13 Intumescent Pipe Collars for protection around cables and pipe work leading to and from the engine room and Envirograf Product 40 Intumescent-Coated Fireproof Sponge and Envirograf Product 46 Intumescent Adhesive for protection on a plate to be fitted to around the steering shaft.
