Consulting engineering firm elementa consulting has been appointed M+E consultant by Infracare for the development of Oxfordshire's first NHS LIFT projects.

Consulting engineering firm elementa consulting has been appointed M+E consultant by Infracare for the development of Oxfordshire's first NHS LIFT projects Currently on site, construction of the GBP9 million East Oxford Health Centre, which is due for completion in September 2006, follows elementa's fast-track fit-out of nearby Raglan House in Cowley, Oxford for use as temporary accommodation whilst works are underway

Prior to decanting staff from the original East Oxford Health Centre, elementa carried out a number of essential mechanical and electrical services to Raglan House to include lighting, air conditioning and ventilation as well as fire and intruder alarms, ensuring a seamless transition for the health care professionals.

The engineers' sustainable design for the new East Oxford Health Centre comprises state-of-the-art low-energy solutions such as efficient lighting and heating together with natural ventilation designed to ensure internal summertime temperatures do not exceed 26 degrees centigrade for 2.5% of the occupied year.

Comprising 2 different GP practices, spacious waiting room and adjacent multi-purpose room, the new primary health care centre will also include a minor surgery suite, offices, space for community nurses, dental practice, meeting facilities, out of hours surgery, retail and pharmacy as well as secure underground parking.

The new primary care facility, which aims to kick-start the overall regeneration of the area, is due for completion in September 2006.

And on the Blackbird Leys Estate in Dunnock Way, the company has again been appointed M+E consultant for the construction of a GBP4.5 million new-build medical centre comprising GP practices, dental practice and support accommodation.

The building is due for completion in December 2005.

"We are delighted to be part of these exciting new facilities," commented Doug Kerr, director, elementa consulting.

"One of the main challenges is designing low-energy, sustainable schemes that have minimum impact on the local environment whilst still providing comfortable internal environments for visitors and staff".

Established in 1985, MCA began trading as elementa consulting in June 2005, the result of a branding exercise to provide the firm with a more contemporary identity.

Specialising in sustainable energy and mechanical and electrical solutions for a wide range of commercial and public sector clients, elementa consulting has offices in Surrey and Oxon.

The name elementa consulting is designed to convey the company's vision for the consulting engineering profession, by utilising the natural elements within the built environment.
