More compressor innovations from Copeland
As part of Emerson Climate Technologies, Copeland is continuing to set the standard with the development of new and innovative products.
At start, electric motors consume very large currents as they accelerate and build-up a magnetic field.
Starting currents may reach 5 to 8 times the levels of nominal operating currents.
As motor speed increases, the motor current decreases and eventually reaches normal running current levels.
The Alco Controls Smart Starter is wired to power and signal lines as per the diagram on the cover.
After the start contact is closed, the built in controller imitates a sequence of events which keep the motor starting current less than 45amps while enabling the motor to develop enough torque to start safely.
At motor start and stop, thyristors momentarily switch the motor current thus eliminating mechanical contact arcing.
The Alco Controls 'Smart Starter' monitors the mains voltage and stops the compressor if the maximum voltage limits are exceeded.
A timer avoids overheat of the motor through several consecutive starts in a short time.
Now available throughout the UK at all Alco wholesalers and stockists.
