At IKK Copeland will introduce its new CO2 compressor for low temperature applications.

At IKK Copeland will introduce its new CO2 compressor for low temperature applications In these applications, the low temperature side uses CO2 as a refrigerant whereas the medium temperature side can be of the direct or indirect type with various options for the refrigerant/coolant

Compared to traditional semi-hermetic technology, CO2 scrolls offer a particularly high permissible condensing temperature.

This provides for an overall more efficient system design, for example when lifting the setpoint of the medium temperature side during low load night operation.

The CO2 scroll compressor also delivers greater efficiency while the high volumetric efficiency of CO2 further adds to the compactness of the Copeland scroll technology.

At times where limitations in component availability cannot always ensure properly sized system components, the superior liquid handling capability of scroll over semi-hermetic reciprocating compressors is even more of an advantage.

Scroll Compressors and Controls For R744 (CO2) Supermarket Refrigeration Copeland and Alco are offering a range of products for CO2 subcritical applications.

Target is the low temperature stage of a supermarket cascade system.

The CO2 subcritical compressors serve the low temperature evaporators.

The condenser side is maintained typically at -5 C by the cascade cooler.

Different system designs are possible for the cascade cooler, including R404A, R717 (NH3) and CO2 transcritical.

The way the medium temperature side is served differs with the design of the cascade cooler.

Four models of scroll compressors, ZO34 to ZO58, offer capacities from 8 kW to 13 kW at low temperature cascade conditions (-35 C evaporating, -10 C condensing temperature).

These compressors have undergone specific reliability testing under laboratory and field conditions.

An engineering program for optimised performance and extended reliability testing is ongoing and will lead to the unlimited release of these compressors during 2006.

Dedicated Alco offerings include electronic expansion valves/drivers, pressure transmitters, filter driers, oil management controls, and many other components essential for these systems.

Products are already available today for field installation on a controlled release basis.
