Emseal fire rated Emshield SJS-FR1 Seismic Joint

Emseal Joint Systems has released its Emshield SJS-FR1, the UL-Certified 1-hour fire-rated expansion joint for seismic and large-gap applications.

Emseal has built the fire-rating into the joint this time for floor and deck joints subject to cars, pedestrians, material handling equipment and other loads.

Installed entirely from the deck or floor above, no utility lifts or holding labor are required.

Installation and continuity of the fire barrier is not compromised by under-slab obstructions from HVAC, electrical, plumbing or mechanical equipment.

The entire system eliminates the traditional need for fire-blankets or gutters.

Emshield SJS-FR1 is UL and ULC certified for joints from 4-10 inches with up to 100 per cent of joint size movement and meets the requirements of ASTM E1966, ASTM E119 and ASTM E1399.

Typical applications are large joints found in parking decks, stadiums, airports, schools, hospitals and other high-traffic locations in need of a fire-rated solution.

As with the SJS Seismic Joint System, the Emshield SJS-FR1 System has a watertight design which eliminates leaks and handles traffic and point loads at larger structural expansion gaps.

Installation is simplified with non-invasive anchoring which makes it suited for retrofit as well as new construction.

The durable coverplate is installed into the foam-embedded extruded composite spline with self-locating coverplate screws which greatly ease the field installation process.

When the Emshield SJS-FR1 system is installed over a leveling-bed of Emseal-supplied elastomeric nosing material it provides the ability to fine-tune the support of coverplate sections reducing rocking and noise caused by unleveled plates.

Emshield SJS-FR1 is available for gap-widths widths from 100mm to 250mm and provides movement capabilities of +50 per cent and -50 per cent (total 100 per cent).
