Police Federation HQ will be a leading example of sustainable building design thanks to design by Couch Perry Wilkes and assistance of mechanical and electrical experts, Emcor Engineering Services.

Upon its completion in May 2007, the new contemporary multi-use Police Federation HQ in Leatherhead will be a leading example of sustainable building design thanks to the design by Couch Perry Wilkes and the assistance of mechanical and electrical experts, Emcor Engineering Services Dean and Dyball Construction awarded Emcor the GBP3.5m mechanical, electrical and public health building service contract, and as part of their brief Emcor will be installing and incorporating the latest environmentally friendly MandE features

The 36 week contract will involve Emcor installing Solar Panels, Part Condensing Boilers and Part Atmospheric Boilers, Chillers on the roof, Chilled Beams and Rafts.

Air Handling Units (AHU's) complete with Thermowheel will be mounted on the roof and will be used to feed the warm and chilled air down to the Termodeck floor slabs.

The contract will also include under floor Heating in the atrium area which is also fully air conditioned by the AHU's (Thermowheel units).

Built over three floors, the new HQ will consist of offices for the Police Federation, 55 hotel style bedrooms, as well as providing training, conference, catering, gymnasium and leisure facilities.

The new HQ marks the Police Federation's ongoing commitment to embracing sustainable principles and looking at the future environment.

Don Jennings, Project Manager, Emcor Engineering Services, commented: "This is an exciting build and one which we are delighted to be involved in".

"With increasing CSR pressure and the need to be seen to be green, plus growing legal requirements such as Part L of the Building regulations, individual businesses face growing scrutiny with regard to their environmental impact".

"With this in mind, The Police Federation is a fine example of an organisation driven to keep its impact to a minimum and demonstrates that incorporating sustainable practices isn't something to feel daunted by, and that with the right help and advice, this is something easily achievable and has significant long term cost benefits.".
