Top of class for education contracts

EMCOR Engineering Services has recently won a string of contracts in education sector to provide a range of mechanical, electrical and public health services.

EMCOR Engineering Services (EES) has recently won a string of contracts in the education sector to the value of almost GBP18 million, to provide a range of mechanical, electrical and public health services for contemporary, world-class leading educational establishments.

EMCOR has been awarded a GBP3.5m contract for the brand new Harris Academy South Norwood, Croydon, which forms part of the Government's programme of developing specialist foundation academy schools aimed at transforming secondary school provision in disadvantaged areas.

Due for completion in June 2007, the contract includes refurbishment of the existing listed building (previously the Stanley Technical High School) and the construction of a new state of the art teaching block which will incorporate the latest in modern technology such as interactive whiteboards, hi-spec TV and media suite plus music practice rooms.

EMCOR has also recently been awarded a GBP12.6 million contract for the new Middlesbrough College, a substantial 32,000 square metre development on Tees Valley's biggest regeneration site at Middlehaven.

The scheme, to be completed for the new student intake for 2008, will see EMCOR providing a range of mechanical and electrical services including the installation of a comprehensive data and security systems, industrial gases and compressed air along with the more traditional services.

The new college will include a new IT resource centre, six training kitchens, a public performance venue, recording studios, Hair and Beauty Salons, Sports Education Facilities and a range of workshops including woodwork, plastering and plumbing.

EMCOR will be involved in all aspects of the development process from design, construction, management through to discussions with the client themselves, in order to obtain first hand the demands of the build.

For example, due to the fast track nature of the project, EMCOR will be looking to utilise Pre Assembly and Prefabrication techniques which will benefit from the use of 3D co-ordination drawings.

Gloucestershire College of Arts and Technology (Gloscat) is another significant win for EMCOR.

Due for completion in June 2007, the GBP4.5 million contract, will see EMCOR installing and incorporating the latest environmentally friendly features, such as natural ventilation and low energy use through the deployment of thermally efficient boiler construction.

The relocation of Gloscat's Gloucester sites to the dockland area is a key element of the wider Gloucester Quays scheme.
