State Of The Art Roof Hits The Right

One of north London's premier music venues is set to benefit from a £1.6 million acoustic facelift, thanks to the work English Architectural Glazing, as part of a multi-million refurbishment.
The Suffolk based firm is designing a bespoke acoustically enhanced system for new roof glazing and curtain walling to ensure the scheme re-development hits the right note with residents of the Camden neighbourhood The Roundhouse started life as a Victorian experiment, an engine turning house on the main line out of Euston, designed by George Stephenson no less

Seeing Through A Landmark Building
One of the most innovative building projects in Docklands has had phase one of its ambitious glass curtain walling completed by English Architectural Glazing.
When no longer required by the railway it became a gin warehouse housing millions of gallons of locally produced spirit when the main roof glazing was blocked out to prevent the direct sunlight from spoiling the gin.
Finally it became the iconic venue of the sixties, home to performances from Jimi Hendrix, Pink Floyd and The Rolling Stones and the venue for The Doors only UK gig until it was closed in 1983.
Managing Director of EAG, Simon Gladwin, said: "The Roundhouse is a very exciting project for us to be involved with given the bespoke nature of the acoustic glazing system, that will be the envy of many UK and European venues.
This is the second big project EAG is involved with in Camden.
The other is the Camden Lock Market." EAG has been engaged on the project by main contractor Tolent Construction Ltd., to work with architects John McAslan and Partners.
Work is underway on site with the specialist glazing package due to start in April 2005.
