There were significant reasons for its specification at South East Essex College, which is a consolidation of four colleges into one state-of-the-art building.
Set in the heart of Southend, the 26,000m2 facility has been erected as a design and build project by Laing O'Rourke, with the KSS Design Group providing design detailing.
DGT Steel and Cladding recommended LINEAR for the radiused entrance areas.
The LINEAR facade system was supplied in Alpolic/fr, an aluminium composite material manufactured by Mitsubishi Products.
Alpolic/fr offers significant advantages, being exceptionally flat and having outstanding colour uniformity.
Working with Mitsubishi Chemical, Euroclad offers its LINEAR panels in Alpolic/fr with a non-combustible mineral core, allowing panels to meet all UK and European fire safety standards without any restrictions.
While South East Essex College is finished in Metallic Silver panels, Alpolic/fr is available in myriad colours; granite or marble effect, as well as stainless steel, zinc and titanium finishes.
The unique process used for coating the material ensures that the colours are entirely consistent throughout.
Andy Simons, project architect, said: "Together with Laing O'Rourke, we undertook an enormous amount of research to identify the most suitable product.
"Amongst the criteria involved in the decision was the fact it is a completely flat panel - there being concerns about dishing with an internal construction such as this and the size of the panel. Request a free brochure from Euroclad ...
It also met our thermal insulation requirements, and had a specification which fulfils the fire performance criteria.".
