Top score roofing from Euroclad at
Arsenal

Euroclad has scored in the construction of Arsenal Football Club's Emirates Stadium by providing a mill-finish aluminium soffit tray for the elliptical roof.

Roofing and cladding manufacturer Euroclad has scored in the construction of Arsenal Football Club's Emirates Stadium by providing a mill-finish aluminium soffit tray for the elliptical roof The dramatic elliptical structural steel roof is one of the most striking features of the stadium, which is a £390 million project

Euroclad was chosen to provide the soffit tray that runs around the entire roof perimeter of the stadium.

Finished in plain mill aluminium, the soffit tray has a flat finish that successfully conceals the structural steelwork.

The bespoke product, manufactured from solid aluminium, was perforated where necessary to provide the acoustic attenuation needed to enhance the atmosphere for spectators and players.

Other pieces were specially designed to house essential lighting and speakers penetrating the soffit.

The soffit tray design posed Euroclad with a technical challenge due to the curvaceous contour of the roof.

Euroclad's technical expertise, specialist machinery and innovative CAD design provided a stylish and outstanding solution.

Moving from Highbury, Arsenal's home since 1913, to Emirates Stadium has been a mammoth task but when fully constructed the stadium will stand 41.5m high in concrete and steel, occupy 17 acres of land and boost Arsenal's seating capacity from 38,500 to 60,000.

Designed by architects HOK Sport, and made possible by many including main contractor Sir Robert McAlpine and envelope specialists Prater, the stadium imitates an impressive saucer-like shape.

Forming an ellipse with a rectangular hole in the middle over the pitch creates the stadium's distinctive design.

The dramatic steel roof has an enclosing effect and consequently produces a gladiatorial atmosphere.

Four main issues surrounded the design of the roof.

It needed to comply with height restrictions; maximise the pitch's microclimate ensuring that the grass has good airflow to improve the turf; create an exciting atmosphere for supporters; and the choice of a constant eaves line.

Geoff Werran from Buro Happold comments, "We've had people working on nothing but the roof for the best part of five years, analysing the structure to keep it as light and thin as possible".

Emirates Stadium is set to impress and Euroclad's contribution to the roofing has ensured that the players will not be the only thing wowing the crowds. Request a free brochure from Euroclad ...
