Polypipe Water Management Solutions has hosted a free CPD seminar event covering a variety of current issues relating to sustainable drainage systems (SUDS) and water management.

Held at One Great George Street, London, the home of the Institute of Civil Engineering, Polypipe WMS brought together a collection of authoritative industry speakers for the one-day event aimed at informing consulting and civil engineers, local authorities and specifiers on the design guidance and legislation governing SUDS best practice.

Speakers and their relevant topics included:.

* Don Ward, Director, Constructing Excellence.

'Construction Sector Supply Chain'.

* Neil Tytler, Manager, The Water Framework Directive Information Centre.

'Implications of the Water Framework Directive' .

* Professor Chris Jeffries, University of Abertay, Dundee.

'Appropriate design for hard and soft SUDS solutions' .

* Glyn Hyett, Managing Director, 3P Technik.

'Emerging technologies for improving water quality'.

* Steve Wilson, Technical Director, EPG.

'Structural design of modular and geocellular drainage tanks'.

Topics covered during the event were selected to provide the most up-to-date information on current industry and legislative drivers, with the aim of providing attendees with appropriate advice following recent Government and EU legislation such as Future Water, the Floods and Water Management Bill and the Water Framework Directive.

All attendees received a free copy of the CIRIA C680 guidance document on 'Structural design of modular geocellular drainage tanks', worth GBP80, alongside the latest product information from Polypipe WMS and a personalised CPD certificate.

Dr Jason Shingleton, General Manager for Polypipe WMS commented following the event: "The feedback we've had from the event has been very positive and encouraging.

We felt that as a responsible manufacturer at the forefront of the SUDS and water management market we were in a position to tackle the degree of confusion that has crept into the industry regarding the use of appropriate SUDS solutions following on from the raft of government legislation that now calls for more use of sustainable drainage techniques.

By offering practical advice to delegates through independent and impartial speakers we hope the event has gone some way to improving the level of understanding of SUDS solutions.

"We're delighted with the interest shown in the event and are already looking at a potential series of seminars to target various locations within the UK.

The popularity of the event demonstrated the current and topical agenda of the seminar and the calibre of the speakers.
