Launch of Permavoid permeable paving system

A Polypipe Water Management Solutions (WMS) product story
Edited by the Buildingtalk editorial team Jun 25, 2010

Charcon-Permavoid is a geocellular system designed as a replacement to a traditional sub-base that provides shallow ground water storage, attenuation or infiltration within a pavement structure.

Polypipe Water Management Solutions (WMS) has partnered with Charcon to offer the Permavoid permeable paving system as part of its extensive range of water management products in a move which sees the dedicated experts in sustainable drainage systems (SUDS) team-up with the leading manufacturer of hard-landscaping solutions.

Lightweight and robust, the modular units interlock to provide a high strength and efficient SUDS solution that offers a 95percent void ratio.

The cells are quick and easy to install, offer improved performance over traditional sub-bases and reduce excavation costs on-site.

With the need for a more sustainable approach to drainage and water management practice driven by legislative change, Charcon-Permavoid utilises both permeable surface and modular cell technology to both control surface water run-off at source and prevent the ingress of contaminants within the local watercourse.

Oil and hydrocarbons are removed by the Permafilter specialist geotextile within the system which minimises subsequent groundwater pollution.

The system also provides a preferable SUDS solution over conventional drainage for brownfield developments.

Thanks to its shallow-depth, the potential for disturbing deep contamination during installation is much lower as less excavation is needed.

By adding Charcon-Permavoid to its extensive range of SUDS and water management products, Polypipe WMS now offers the most complete range of below- ground solutions available in the UK.

The new product is supported by Polypipe WMS' dedicated team of SUDS technical consultants and civil engineers who provide a range of specification and technical services - including hydraulic and structural calculations, project planning and technical design - to ensure the most efficient and cost-effective sustainable drainage solution is utilised for a particular project.
