Eternit Slates Shapes St Martins
St Martins Street, Hereford, is home to a highly individual development of 15 luxury apartments that have made extensive use of Eternit Slates Galante natural slate.
Built as an octagonal structure, the focal point of the development is the unusual octagonal roof that tops the steel and timber framed structure.
The St Martins street apartments, positioned at the gateway to the historic Herefordshire city and situated within a designated conservation area, were designed and built by local company N Taylor Building Services Ltd in conjunction with architect, Paul Sant.
Specified in traditional Mid Grey, the leading Galante slates, offered the St Martins development a slightly rougher texture than comparable slates.
Sourced from Spain, the slates are tough and durable and combine aesthetic appeal with high quality performance.
The slate is guaranteed by Eternit Slates for 50 years.
Nick Taylor, Managing Director of N Taylor Building Services explains: "The development was subject to stringent planning requirements from the local authority.
We were required to use a natural slate to fit in with the surrounding countryside and the Galante slate from Eternit's Classic range provided the best solution in terms of both performance and appearance." The development began two years ago on the site of a former storage depot.
Once completed, all of the apartments, except the penthouse suite, which is already occupied by Nick Taylor and his family, will be privately rented by AJN Investments, a subsidiary of the building firm: "This is a very high profile, aesthetic development," continues Nick Taylor, "which uses the highest quality materials and systems within the construction process.
"The roof construction has achieved what we required - a striking, unusual shape that satisfies planning demands whilst providing high visual attraction.".
