Marley Eternit weatherboard provides rainscreen
Marley Eternit has supplied Cedral Weatherboard as part of the re-building of a historic windmill in Kent.
The Grade II listed mill was destroyed by fire in an arson attack which ruined two years' refurbishment work.
Cedral Weatherboard from Marley Eternit was specified in white to clad a historic windmill in Kent
Cedral Weatherboard, which has a class 0 fire performance, was chosen in white because it replicated the original timber material, and provided the building with enhanced fire performance.
Marley Eternit's Cedral Weatherboard was fitted horizontally in a ship lap effect around the smock of the windmill, which is designed with a curve on one side.
As Cedral Weatherboard is a fibre-cement material and does not warp or shrink over time, making it a suitable cladding material for this complex shape.
The weatherboard is designed to offer the same natural visual appeal as timber by featuring a subtly textured surface.
Cedral Weatherboard helped create a sympathetic restoration of the building.
The fibre-cement cladding was fitted above a brick base and below the cap which tops the windmill.
The structure of the re-built wall comprises a steel frame, PIR insulation, internal plasterboard, timber battens, a layer of breathable felt, more battens and then Cedral Weatherboard.
This ensures that the weatherboard acts as an effective rainscreen facade as well as the complete wall construction providing high levels of thermally efficiency.
Marley Eternit's Cedral Weatherboard is available in a range of 22 factory applied solid colours and six woodstains.
This is complemented with a bespoke colour service, allowing customers to choose from any factory approved BS colour, subject to minimum order quantities.
