Ethernet Direct announce the redundant technology X-Ring, an auto-recovery feature which is supported in Husky managed Industrial Ethernet switch series.

Ethernet Direct Corporation, a professional and primary provider of Industrial Networking and communication solutions, announce the redundant technology X-Ring, an auto-recovery feature which is supported in Husky managed Industrial Ethernet switch series There are several redundancy mechanisms in existence, some of which emphasize fast recovery but do not guarantee reliability

Fast recovery is often being promoted as advantage of industrial switch redundancy; however, fast recovery is not symmetrical to reliable network.

Ethernet Direct offers X-Ring on Industrial Managed Ethernet switches and RAPID X-ring on Industrial Managed Gigabit switches.

For industrial networks and applications, most industries measure downtime in terms of the cost per minute of lost production.

For this reason, network reliability is the most important aspect in the design of manufacturing systems.

Choosing fast redundant recovery is good, but choosing fast and reliable is the priority which can be offered by Ethernet Direct.

Ethernet Direct's X-Ring is designed for mission critical industrial networks.

When using industrial Ethernet switches in a ring topology, X-ring can deactivate one of the links in the ring to data traffic while simultaneously monitoring that the link is functioning.

In case one of the links in the ring fails, the deactivated link is "activated" in less than 300 milliseconds.

This is fast enough, but even faster when deploying Industrial Managed Gigabit Ethernet switches wherein recovery time in less than 50 milliseconds.

The most common redundancy called Spanning Tree Protocol has been developed into Rapid Spanning Tree Protocol (RSTP), which reconfigures in less than one second.

However, this is based on switch limitation in a ring.

In an industrial application, a ring may need to support 20-30 switches.

In this regard, Ethernet Direct's X-ring supports the ability to network 20-30 switches in a ring.

Our software technology is one reason to rely on Ethernet Direct Husky Industrial switches.

The X-Ring proprietary protocol incorporates both Coupling Ring and Dual Homing.

When there is more than one X-Ring group set up in a network, the Coupling Ring function ensures redundancy in the transmissions between the two ring groups.

While the Dual Homing feature can ensure two X-Ring groups with redundant back up when connected to a backbone switch and can be enabled in the switches to allow for standby links to the upper level switch.

To sum up, network redundancy is about how to effectively recover when there is a network downtime and redundant ring is the solution to keep the system working.
