Sustainable energy technology business ENER-G has acquired energy metering and control specialist Switch2 Energy Solutions for an undisclosed sum.

The acquisition of Switch2 is ENER-G's second major transaction in three months, following its purchase in October 2007 of utility services company CMR Consultants Greater Manchester-based ENER-G is a sustainable energy technology business turning over GBP65m and employing over 550 people in the UK and overseas

The group provides renewable and energy efficient power generation and management to a global customer base.

Based in Bradford, West Yorkshire, Switch2 has been active in the UK for more than 40 years and specialises in providing energy metering, control and billing for domestic and commercial consumers.

The business has a turnover of GBP7.5m and employs 83 staff.

Traditionally, the business has been most prominent in the district and community heating sectors.

However, in recent years it has expanded into the private sector housing market.

This has included involvement in many high-profile developments such as the Manchester Beetham Tower, London Stratford Eye and Berkeley Homes' prestigious Royal Arsenal project in Woolwich.

Switch2 fits strategically with ENER-G's current operational sectors of energy management, cogeneration, renewable energy, and energy from waste.

ENER-G chairman, Tim Scott, said: "ENER-G already provides cogeneration systems for district and centralised heating schemes and the addition of Switch2 now enables us to offer complete end-to-end solutions in this growing market".

"These schemes deliver important social, economic and environmental benefits - particularly in tackling fuel poverty in the social housing sector".

""Switch2's sub-metering, billing and customer service is leading the way for the industry and we are delighted that they are joining our team." Switch2 director, Jayne Clare added: "The complementary strengths of our two organisations mean we can fund, deliver and support long-term district and community energy projects".

""This will bring significant benefits to our industry and enable more clients and consumers to save energy and money on their utility bills".

"Our team will also greatly benefit from being part of the ENER-G group as they have a secure, employee-friendly ethos." Two of Switch2's current directors, Jayne Clare and Chris Fortes, will remain with the business and the third, David Phillips, will retire following a six-month handover period.
