Eurocell is celebrating the results of research carried out by the BRE, in which PVC-u windows have been awarded an 'A' rating in its 2008 Green Guide to Specification.

The Guide assigned an A+ rating for PVC-u windows used in commercial buildings and an 'A' rating for domestic properties These are the highest possible rankings for any material, putting it at the top of the list for specifiers looking for windows with the very best sustainability credentials

"We are delighted with the recent results of the Green Guide" explains Martin Saunders, Sales Director of Eurocell Profiles: "This just confirms what we have long recognised - that PVC-u windows are a real sustainable choice as well as being the best value material on the market".

The Green Guide provides architects and specifiers with advice and guidance on how to make the best environmental choices when selecting building materials.

The BRE assigned the top sustainability ratings for PVC-u because of the progress made in the area of recycling in recent years.

The UK PVC-u industry recycled more than 42,000 tonnes of post-consumer PVC-u in 2007, according to Recovinyl, the recycling body which is funded by the Vinyl 2010 initiative.

As a company, Eurocell has invested heavily in recycling and environmental initiatives, which recently resulted in the launch of a new cavity closer that is made from 100 per cent recycled material.

In addition, the cavity closer helps meet the tighter thermal performances required in the latest Building Regulations, making it a firm favourite with housebuilders looking to create sustainable developments.

Cavity closers improve the air tightness of a dwelling which minimises heat loss between the jambs and cills, improving the overall thermal performance as well as eliminating draughts.

Eurocell re-use virtually 100% of the waste product from the manufacturing process which, in 2007, amounted to 2,896 tonnes of recycled PVC-u.

The company also buys waste product from other sources for recycling.

The result is virtually zero Eurocell production waste going to landfill.

Martin Saunders continues: "Sustainable materials are in demand at the moment within the construction industry, due to the tighter Building Regulations and the Code for Sustainable Homes.

PVC-u windows have now been independently proven to have leading sustainable properties which make them a crucial part of creating 'greener' buildings".

Eurocell produces the widest range of PVC-u profiles in the UK, all of which are available through fabricators and installers nationwide.

Latest product developments in the company include Thermalogik, the leading cost effective 'A' rated window system, along with The Dales Collection, a range of stylish entrance doors that offer up to six times the energy efficiency of other materials.
