Nationwide Windows help Hatherton Primary School

Nationwide Windows fitted over 80 replacement PVC-u casement windows as a long lasting and low-maintenance solution to existing timber windows that had rotted and deteriorated beyond repair.

Nationwide Windows is helping Hatherton Primary School in Walsall, West Midlands, undergo a major refurbishment and modernisation programme to create a warmer and more comfortable learning environment for pupils.

Nationwide Windows has a proven track record within the education sector and has helped refurbish numerous schools throughout the UK.

Nationwide used Eurocell's Eurologik profile system as it knew the 70mm front to back dimension would make a perfect replacement for the existing timber windows.

This proved to be a huge benefit for the school as it avoided the costly and disruptive process of having to alter plaster lines.

Safety considerations were integral to the school's requirement and so Nationwide Windows recommended handles located out of reach of pupils.

Safety glass was also installed on lower level windows to minimise injuries to pupils if the glass was ever broken.

Nationwide's advanced fabrication facility and professional installers meant that it was able to supply windows to meet these bespoke requirements.

As windows account for a significant proportion of a building's heat loss, Nationwide's windows will play a major role in improving the school's environmental performance.

This was helped by the fact Eurocell's Eurologik profile system features multi-chambers in cross-section to enhance its thermal efficiency.

Mr Haywood, Headteacher at Hatherton Primary School, explains: "Upgrading our windows was an integral part of the ongoing renovation of the School".

"The old windows were in desperate need of replacement to prevent draughts in the classrooms, especially considering all the recent cold weather".

The Green Guide measures the embodied impact of materials and building components for generic building types and their cradle-to-grave impact on the environment, and awards a single rating, ranging from A+ to E.
