BFRC rating for Design Window And Door Systems

An Eurocell Profiles product story

Design Window and Door Systems is celebrating achieving one of the highest BFRC Energy Index ratings for a double glazed window.

The 'A' rated window achieved a BFRC Energy Index of 8kWh/m/year.

An Energy Index of 8 kWh/m/year means the window will allow more heat from the sun to pass through the glass and into the room than is going to be lost through the window.

In this example, the window will gain eight kilowatt hours per square metre per year, which will contribute towards heating the home.

British Fenestration Research Council (BFRC) is the UK's national system for rating the energy efficiency of windows.

Design Window and Door Systems, based in Great Baddow, Essex, achieved an 'A' rating using Eurocell's Eurologik profile system with Eurocell's new PVC-u Thermal Inserts.

Without Eurocell's 100 per cent recycled PVC-u Thermal Inserts, the window would not have achieved '8', as demonstrated when an identical window, without the inserts achieved an 'A' rating of '0' kWh/m/year Energy Index - still a high performance window.

The Energy Index, which forms part of the Window Energy Ratings alongside the A-E scale on the Energy Label, shows how much energy the window will save or lose once it has been installed.

Effectively, this means that installers who source from Design Window and Door Systems will be able to offer its customers a product that provides them with 'free energy'.

This should prove a highly effective selling proposition especially when homeowners realise that an 'A' rating for energy efficiency and positive Energy Index will both help to reduce significantly their fuel bills.

David Martin, Managing Director at Design Window and Door Systems, explains: "We are delighted to achieve an 'A' rated window with an 8 Energy Index".

"It will offer customers an excellent method of improving the thermal performance of their properties".

"We could not have cost effectively achieved this level of thermal performance without the help of Eurocell's profile systems and new PVC-u Thermal Inserts".

Design Window and Door Systems achieved the performance rating on both Eurocell's Eurologik chamfered and ovolo profile systems.

The company supplies replacement windows to installers and builders throughout East Anglia, London and the South East of England".

"As there are now a large number of 'A' rated windows on the market, we are encouraging all our customers to take notice of the Energy Index as it gives an indication of the window's energy balance".

"The higher the positive number the more building occupier's will benefit from free energy," comments David Martin.

The BFRC A-E Ratings Label, which is widely recognised and similar to those found on white goods, helps consumers make informed choices about the energy efficiency of windows.

Gaining BFRC 'A' rating with a 8 Energy Index, both of which are shown on the Ratings Label that Design Window and Door Systems will be putting on relevant products, will therefore prove a highly effective marketing tool.
