Eurobond, a manufacturer of mineral wool cored composite panel systems, has donated some of its panels to a rooftop garden project entitled 'The Sky at Night'

This garden won a Gold Award in the Urban Garden Awards at this year's prestigious Chelsea Flower Show and, appropriately, was officially opened by famous astronomer Sir Patrick Moore Situated within the Urban Gardens section, the garden was designed with an astronomer in mind, a sliding roof allowing the practical and functional space to be used even during inclement weather

Although not traditionally associated with landscape architecture, Eurobond was happy to make the charitable donation to a delighted Barry Mayled, Welsh architect and garden designer.

"As an architect, I was aware of the performance and aesthetic capabilities of composite wall panels and I decided that using them for the mini-building in the garden would create a modern and stylish structure," said Mayled.

"I approached Eurobond and they were very helpful and supportive".

Eurobond composite panels have a non-combustible Rockwool core bonded to pre-finished steel.

They are used widely for internal walls and external cladding, when a low-risk building is required in terms of fire performance and low environmental impact.

However, in this instance Eurobond panels make a welcome, if unusual, addition to 'The Sky at Night' garden.

'The Sky at Night' supported two charities - Diabetes UK and Scoliosis Wales and the garden took a prime position at the bottom of the Main Avenue at the show.
