Faithful and Gould is to extend its involvement in the redevelopment of Edinburgh 's city centre by providing cost consultancy to AM Development UK , the developer newly appointed to assist in reviewing current potential for retail led regeneration opportunities for historic Princes Street Faithful and Gould's local knowledge of Edinburgh and Scotland and its extensive experience in retail and regeneration projects have made it a key contributor to the on-going regeneration projects in Scotland 's capital

The Princes Street project, led by Edinburgh City Centre Management, is the latest initiative and for many, the most exciting.

It involves the selective redevelopment of the various retail blocks and will be unfolded over the next ten years with the objectives of increasing retail space on Princes Street and Rose Street and enhancing adjoining streets by improving access to upper floors and back lanes.

The proposals for Princes Street are set out in 'Inspiring Action', a document that reviews the Edinburgh City Centre Strategy and Action Plan 2003-2008.

Details of a number of other regeneration projects are also included in the document.

The document was unveiled at the end of last month by Edinburgh City Centre Management (ECCM), an independent company which is leading the regeneration activities, supported by Scottish Enterprise Edinburgh and Lothian, the City of Edinburgh Council and over 90 City Centre organisations and businesses.

Faithful and Gould has been working with ECCM since June 2004, providing advice and expertise on various elements within the original Strategy and Action Plan 2003-2008.

More recently it has provided advice and expertise on the revised plan, Inspiring Action.

As part of its work Faithful and Gould has generated feasibility and options studies for the overall design concept for Princes Street in advance of AM Development's appointment.

It will now work with AM Development to undertake detailed viability studies for specific elements of the Princes Street project.

Paul Sherry, Regional Director, Faithful and Gould, says: "Edinburgh's city centre, with its setting, views and attractions, is famous throughout the world".

"It is a privilege and pleasure to be part of the redevelopment team working to ensure that it remains a one of the best cities in the world to visit, live and do business".

Jonathan Guthrie, Development Manager, Edinburgh City Centre Management, says: "Faithful and Gould's expertise has been important to moving the regeneration plans forward".

"Redevelopment on the scale that is planned in Edinburgh is highly complex and requires a vast number of options to be developed and assessed before plans and proposals can be firmed up".

"This requires accurate and realistic cost forecasts, and it is this that Faithful and Gould bring to the team." "With regards to Princes Street, a huge amount of work has already been undertaken but even so, we are still very much at the beginning of things".

"Now that AM Development is on board there is a lot of detailed work to be undertaken not only by Faithful and Gould but by all the professional members of the regeneration team".

"What we are aiming for is a workable solution that will improve the retail offering of one of Scotland's best loved shopping areas." The Princes Street project has already won two Awards.

On October 25, it was judged best project for 'Enhancing the Retail Offer' in the annual Association of Town Centre Management's Scotland Awards.

It then went on to win the overall Scotland Award as well and will now go forward to the national awards in London early in 2006.
