Rhenofol from single ply roofing specialist FDT
Rhenofol from single ply roofing specialist FDT has been used to create a traditional look for the roof of an extension to Whipps Cross Hospital, London.
Previously, the Navy's fleet headquarters staff were located at a number of different sites, so the new building was planned to bring the administration of surface ships, submarines, Royal Marines, Naval Aviation and the Royal Fleet Auxiliary under one roof alongside front-line Naval units.
The 4,000 sq.
metre new-build roofing project posed a challenge of negotiating several large north-facing sky lights with steep pitches, which prevent direct sunlight shining in to the building.

Glazed System For The Stars
Alco Beldan have completed an installation at a recently renovated property in North London which used to be the home of the golden couple Lulu and the late Maurice Gibb.
In addition, the roof needed to be completed within a tight 10-week schedule in the heart of winter.
This was to enable the Royal Navy to proceed with the fitting of interiors and the installation of its computer equipment without fear of any weather damage.
Contractor James Watt from Angus Roofing Contractors Ltd wasted no time in opting for the proven benefits of Rhenofol CV membrane from single ply specialists FDT (UK) Ltd to complete the task.
With its reputation for versatility and longevity, the Rhenofol single ply membrane was adhered to a polyurethane insulation layer which was mechanically fixed to the roof deck over a vapour barrier.
Walkway membrane was then welded over the top giving an anthracite-coloured non-slip finish enabling roof maintenance work to be carried out safely.
Rhenofol was also applied to the terrace area with paving installed on top, providing an ideal spot for staff to relax and take in the spectacular views of the harbour.
A Site Technician from FDT was closely involved in the progress of the work, which required operatives in harnesses to tackle the steep pitches of the roof surrounding the north-facing sky lights.
James Watt commented: "FDT was chosen as our preferred single ply membrane supplier.
I have been using the Rhenofol product for around 20 years and consider the product to be the best on the market.
It has been well tried and tested and I have never had any problems with quality or the back up service provided by FDT." Tony Bryan managing director of FDT said: "This has to be one of the most high profile jobs completed with our system in the last ten years! We are delighted that the relationship with Angus Roofing has led to such a satisfying result!".
