Federation of Master Builders urges Cameron to adopt lower VAT for green homes.

"If David Cameron is serious about creating a greener Britain then he needs to adopt the recommendation from his Quality of Life Commission report which recommends cutting VAT for repairs and maintenance to homes", says Brian Berry, Director of External Affairs at the Federation of Master Builders (FMB) Berry continued, "The FMB is committed to creating a greener Britain and has long argued the need for a cut in VAT on repairs and maintenance"

"Homes contribute 27% of the UK's total carbon emissions but existing grants and long pay back periods offer little incentive for householders to make their homes more energy efficient".

"Cutting VAT on repairs and maintenance to buildings would provide the kick-start that is currently missing to encourage householders to make their home green".

"A cut in VAT would also:.

- Tackle fuel poverty by helping cut energy bills for those on low incomes".

- Help clean up the construction industry by eliminating cowboy builders who prey on the vulnerable on society by offering work for cash Increase revenue to the Treasury".

- Last year an estimated GBP1.3 billion was paid to rogue traders by unsuspecting householders.".
