The Forestry Commission publishes provisional statistics on woodland area, new woodland creation and replanting of woodlands that have been felled in Great Britain.
Of this, 2.0 million hectares is owned by private woodland owners and non-FC public sector bodies.
Almost 12 thousand hectares of new woodland were created in Great Britain in the year to 31 March 2004.
Most new planting is broadleaf species (over 9 thousand hectares, compared to almost 3 thousand hectares of coniferous species).
Over 12 thousand hectares of land was restocked after felling.
