Woodland owners to be offered advice on seizing opportunities in timber market at free workshop organised by Wales Forest Business Partnership.

Woodland owners are to be offered advice on seizing opportunities in the timber market at a free workshop organised by the Wales Forest Business Partnership (WFBP) Key industry speakers will outline the emerging picture on wood supply and highlight the developing opportunities at the day-long workshop, entitled "Prospects for the Timber Market in Wales - woodland owners' supply opportunity", to be held at the Hope Conference in Newtown on Monday, February 19

As well as looking at opportunities, the workshop will also give delegates the chance to raise issues of concern about present and future markets.

The workshop is primarily aimed at private woodland owners and their advisers, who will be encouraged to contribute to discussions and give feedback at breakout sessions on matters that affect the sector.

Attention will be given to the supply and demand of timber with critical information including latest Forestry Commission Wales and private sector production forecasts being presented, together with a review of the wider forest products market dynamics from a UK and global perspective.

The event will invite views and perspectives from businesses within the forestry sector, including private growers, forest management companies, practitioners, timber merchants, contractors, timber processors and Forestry Commission Wales.

Among the speakers will be Roger Cooper, senior lecturer at the University of Wales, Bangor.

Forestry Commission Wales Director Ian Forshaw and WFBP Chair Kevin Lyden will attend to listen to the debate.

Gareth Price, manager of the WFBP, said, "It's recognised that the forestry and wood processing industry and all involved in the supply chain need to work in a more integrated manner to build stronger linkages and gain a better understanding of the key issues facing the industry.

"We anticipate that a number of issues, pointers and recommendations will be highlighted during the day.

The WFBP will consider the feedback from the event and decide what action to take.".
