The Freight Transport Association, Construction Plant-hire Association and Civil Engineering Contractors Association have joined forces to issue guidance on the new dangerous goods regulations.

The classification of gas oil and diesel fuel as dangerous goods has forced plant and construction companies to rethink their distribution activities But there is still confusion amongst operators about the application of the regulations, compliance actions and transitional periods warns the FTA, CPA and CECA

Step by step, the compliance planner explains the regulations as they apply to the carriage of gas oil and diesel fuel in jerry-cans, drums, bowsers, and tankers.

The three associations have found that there is still a widespread belief that these regulations have been delayed or postponed.

John Hix, General Manager of FTA's Dangerous Goods Consultancy Service commented, 'This is simply not the case, the regulations are now in force, but what we have won are important concessions allowing the continued use of certain types of bowsers and breathing space to give us time to get drivers through ADR driver training courses.

There is also a 1,000 litre threshold for drums and some bowsers, up to which the full operational provisions do not apply.' The compliance planner is in A2 wall chart format and is available free of charge to members.
