AEC Cuts Energy Bills By 55% For London Borough
Energy management specialist, AEC, has enabled the London Borough of Tower Hamlets to save 55% in energy costs, by identifying and resolving inefficient energy use in one district heating schemes.
Its newly refurbished Cheltenham hotel was the first to benefit from the technology, which has been provided by solar thermal specialist Firstlight Energy.
Firstlight has installed 12 of its large SunStream vacuum tube collectors, together with 25 of its SunStream thermal heat stores.
Energy gathered by the collectors is stored in the heat stores which, unlike other solar thermal systems, do not use water.
Instead they utilise a specially developed medium that retains higher levels of heat for longer periods.
This system can reduce oil or gas consumption by up to 70%.
The Hotel du Vin installation is forecast to reduce energy consumption by 175,000Kwh per annum, saving 33 tonnes of carbon.
It is estimated that the cost to savings ratio amounts to less than 1p per Kwh for the next 30 years.
A Hotel du Vin spokesman said: "We are committed to making our hotels as environmentally friendly as possible".
"This is the first of our hotels to incorporate renewable energy technology".
Following on from the Cheltenham installation, the Firstlight Energy system has also been installed in Hotel du Vin York.
