Supermarket fined for serious fire
safety failures
Supermarket fined a record GBP250,000 for breaches of fire safety law that included failure to complete fire risk assessments, and leaving fire doors wedged open in Co-op stores across East Sussex.
In fact the fire safety offences were deemed so serious that the case was referred to the Crown Court for sentencing This case is even more shocking when we consider there are over sixty fires a week in retail outlets resulting in some150 casualties each year
