HansenGroup company's SwingLine door system chosen to provide the required solution in terms of aesthetics and performance at Number One London Wall built by Sir Robert McAlpine.

Standing within sight of the monument which marks the starting point for the Great Fire of London, a newly completed commercial office complex has made use of secondary glazing systems from FendorHansen, specified to offer 30 minutes integrity and insulation in the event of a blaze beginning The corporate quality, 12 storey building at Number One London Wall has been built by Sir Robert McAlpine and designed by the leading architectural practice of Foster and Partners

Because of concern about the proximity of the property to neighbouring buildings a fire rated secondary glazing had to be integrated.

HansenGroup company's SwingLine door system was chosen as providing the required solution in terms of aesthetics and performance.

Working as a sub-contractor to facade specialist Josef Gartner and Co Ltd, FendorHansen installed its high performance screens behind the curtain walling units on two elevations.

A total of 120 of the three metre high hinged SwingLine units were fitted from the 1ST to the 12th floor.

John Drew, Foster and Partners' project director, comments: "Well lit office space in London is very desirable.

Number One London Wall has been constructed within one metre of the neighbouring properties, so utilising secondary fire rated glazing allowed us to have fully glazed facades for maximum natural light." Despite the slenderness of the SwingLine sections, the hinged frames provide the adequate strength to carry the specialist heavy duty glazing required to achieve the fire performance, and still be swung back for cleaning purposes.

All of the screens contain Pilkington's Pyrostop glass, which is frequently employed by FendorHansen for vision walls protecting building lobbies and escape staircases.

FendorHansen is part of the Anglo-Scandinavian HansenGroup, one of Europe's leading fenestration specialists, with annual sales of ?100 million and over 1,000 employees.

HansenGroup's activities extend from structural glazing, curtain walling and windows, fire resisting and steel glazing systems and advanced glass processing to high performance steel doorsets for fire, acoustic, security and cleanroom applications.
