Fendor makes screen appearance at Prestwick
The construction of Scotland's major new air traffic control facility has involved metal-framed fenestration specialist Fendor Limited in providing high-performance screens and doors.
While conventional 24 mm double glazing as well as 46 mm thick units achieving 60 minutes insulation and integrity had to be incorporated depending on the proximity of the site boundary, both were maintained in the same plane by adjusting the spacers and beading employed with the FineLine frames.
Furthermore, these robust and slender sections also enable the screens spanning the tall first floor zone to sustain high design wind loads with 5.5 metre tall mullions were spaced at three metre intervals.
Glazing units up to three metres long and two metres high were installed into the screens.

Fendor Slimline in London Wall
Fendor's SlimLine secondary glazing system provides fire protection to the externally glazed facade of the new office block, No 1 London Wall.
The Architect who supervised the project for The Colman Partnership, Chris Corner, comments: "FendorHansen met the challenge of making the fire rated and non fire rated glazing match and we are very happy with the appearance.
The manufacturer can be proud of what has been achieved." While the 24 mm thick IG units fitted in many of the ribbon windows contain a laminated, low-E inner pane, for the fire rated versions the outer pane of toughened glass is replaced by 27 mm thick Pyrostop glass.
Another variation on this is seen at the splayed corners of the Wetherburn Court where FendorHansen provided decorative obscure glass panels to mask fire rated blockwork infill in the manner of spandrel sections.
FendorHansen also fabricated the rebated double doors giving access to the gym itself using the SwingLine while a 15 metre run of the ribbon windows here were produced as tilt and turn openers to provide for natural ventilation.
In addition to working closely with the design team and the main contractor throughout the pre-contract and installation phases, FendorHansen also demonstrated its ability to overcome logistical constraints: utilising mobile cranes and other specialised glass lifting equipment in the confined area between existing office buildings.
FendorHansen is part of the Anglo-Scandinavian HansenGroup, one of Europe's leading fenestration specialists, with annual sales of ?100 million and over 1,000 employees.
HansenGroup's activities extend from structural glazing, curtain walling and windows, fire resisting and steel glazing systems and advanced glass processing to high performance steel doorsets for fire, acoustic, security and cleanroom applications.
