Forticrete walling stone helps developers meet local planning requirements.
The ability of Forticrete's Anstone pitched face Walling Stone to closely replicate the character of natural stone is helping developers to meet stringent new regional planning requirements throughout the north of England and Scotland, following legislation introduced in April 2007 Planning Policy Statement 3: Housing, (PPS 3) must now be a material consideration for Local Authorities when assessing new developments

PPS 3 requires planning authorities to consider how well new buildings blend in with the existing built environment, specifically in reference to making use of the traditional materials local to the area.
Forticrete's Anstone pitched face Walling Stone is so close a match to numerous regional stones that in many areas it has become the only accepted alternative for building the external and boundary walls of new homes.
According to Mike Emmerson, Regional Sales Manager at Forticrete Roofing, Walling and Cast Stone, the challenge for developers is that natural stone materials are often considerably more expensive than other alternatives.
He explains: "Developers are keen to create properties in keeping with the local area, but using traditional materials can prove expensive.
This means the cost of a property escalates, making it even harder to create affordable housing.
"For this reason we have worked hard to create a range of Walling Stone that closely matches the colour and characteristics of different regional natural stones".
Anstone Walling Stone is manufactured in a variety of Split, Pitched and Cottage face finishes and in a choice of eight 'natural' stone colours but it is the pitched face, where each stone has a distinctive raised centre, that has particularly found favour with northern planners.
Emmerson continues: "The sophistication of our production methods allows us to create products that provide the same structural integrity as natural stone and yet give developers the option of using more cost-effective materials even when building in areas where the use of natural stone is predominant.".
