Forticrete creates vibrant student environment
Forticrete Astra Glaze masonry in Viking Red has been specified for a major student accommodation project on Old Street, central London.
Gemini, in Jacobean colour, and Shearstone Walling stone in Cotswold, with a Cottage finish, were specified by the Jamie MacMasters-Green, the designer and self builder of the project.
Commenting on the materials chosen, he said: "I was looking for cost effective and environmentally sound products that blend in with the traditional buildings in the area".
"Shearstone Walling Stone resembles natural stone and so has helped to give the property an established appearance".
"In addition, the Gemini twin tile allows me to create a clay plain tile look, but using almost a quarter as many tiles and is also much faster to lay than conventional tiles".
"As a first time self builder, the support and advice from the Forticrete Technical team and the area sales manager was just what I needed to help me decide the material specifications and colours".
Considered a roofing system rather than just a tile, Gemini has all the appeal of a traditional cambered plain tile and also benefits from the availability of a complementary range of easy to use, mortar-free solutions for ridge, eaves, verge, hips and valleys.
Phil King, Forticrete area sales manager, adds: "The combination of environmental and cost benefits makes our award winning Gemini twin tile a popular choice".
"It uses 40% less carbon dioxide per square metre in its manufacture than a concrete plain tile and is on average 30% less expensive when laid than a traditional clay plain tile".
Forticrete's Shearstone Walling Stone range is available in three different finishes: Split, Pitched and Cottage, which has a rough irregular finish.
The Walling Stone is available in eleven different colours including a standard and a premier range.
Gemini roofing tiles are also available in a range of colours including two new options: Mixed Russet and Sunrise Blend.
The self build project is planned to be completed by August 2008.
