Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems (SUDS) are increasingly being used to prevent run-off and flooding, and as a method of collecting and cleaning storm water.
The Formpave Stormwater Source Control System allows rain to infiltrate through a permeable concrete block paved surface into a unique stone sub-base where it is cleaned, by filtration and microbial action, before being released in a controlled manner into sewers or water courses, or infiltrated directly into the sub-grade.
The water can also be harvested and used for non-potable purposes such as watering plants and flushing toilets.

Formpave has designed a range of Aquaflow paving blocks to be used in conjunction with either tanked or infiltration systems.
All of the Aquaflow blocks and slabs provide drainage through vertical channels and allow water through the surface at a rate of approximately 9000mm per hour (9000 litres per m2 per hour).
With infiltration systems, the sub-base is underlaid with a unique pervious geotextile membrane (Inbitex) and is suitable for use where it is proposed to infiltrate the water directly into a suitable sub-grade.
A tanked system is underlaid by an impervious plastic membrane (SC membrane) and is suitable for use where it is proposed to attenuate storm water before releasing it in a controlled manner, harvest the water for re-use or where difficult or contaminated sub-grades are encountered.
In 2002 Formpave Limited was awarded the Queen's Award for Enterprise, in the innovation category, for their patented Stormwater Source Control System and Aquaflow range of Permeable Paving.
With over 550 completed sites in the UK, the system is over 12 years old and has BBA certification.
Formpave offers a complete design service to enable the Stormwater Source Control System to be constructed to suit specific sites.
The service includes technical and professional advice, preparation of draft proposals, and validation of clients' own designs.
The design service is free of charge and covered by Formpave's professional indemnity insurance.
