Hanson Formpave 1000th Aquaflow installation
Hanson Formpave has recently completed its 1000th Aquaflow permeable paving installation at a new Tesco store in Rutherglen, Scotland.
Specified by Hammerson plc, a leading European property company, this deal represents the company's largest Aquaflow order to date.
Commenting on the installation, Kate Robinson, director at Formpave, said, "The site under development was previously the Gloucester Cattle Market, a highly contaminated land with a number of environmental issues regarding the treatment and handling of surface water under redevelopment".
Martin Adie, Senior Project Manager, at Balfour Beatty, main contractor for the project said, "Stipulating very strict requirements for water control, the Environment Agency insisted that a permeable paving system needed to be specified for the site".

"In conjunction with Consulting Engineers, Hyder Consulting, we selected the proven, patented Formpave system as the ideal solution".
A tanked design, incorporating a robust welded membrane, is being used to line the system.
This will ensure that no surface water will be infiltrated into the contaminated ground.
Formpave's Stormwater Source Control system cleans the surface water and attenuates it within a special stone sub-base before allowing it to be discharged it in a controlled manner.
Formpave's system allows rain to infiltrate through a permeable concrete block paved surface into a unique stone sub-base where it is cleaned, by filtration and microbial action, before being released in a controlled manner into sewers or water courses, or infiltrated directly into the sub-grade.
Construction of the initial retail and leisure phase started in September 2004, and is due for completion in September 2005.
Formpave was specified as the supplier to Phase 1 of the project, and has delivered 19,000m2 of the Formpave Aquaflow Permeable Paving that is currently being installed in conjunction with its Stormwater Source Control system.
Formpave's Design Services team worked closely with Consulting Engineers, Hyder Consulting; Architect, Lyons Sleeman Hoare; Main Contractor, Balfour Beatty; and Principal Sub-contractor, Smiths of Gloucester to produce an efficient, aesthetically pleasing and buildable solution.
This is the second time that Formpave's Storm Water Source Control system has been used on a Hammerson development.
The first was at the recently completed Cyfartha Retail Park in Merthyr Tydfil where over 13000 m2 of Aquaflow permeable paving and standard block paving was supplied through builders merchant UGS.
