Formpave, a leading manufacturer of standard and specialist concrete block and permeable paving systems, has announced its move into the natural stone market.

Formpave, a leading manufacturer of standard and specialist concrete block and permeable paving systems, has announced its move into the natural stone market with the launch of Royal Forest Pennant paving, quarried in the Royal Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire To manage the Pennant stone business, including sales and distribution, Formpave has established a new subsidiary company, called Forest Pennant Limited, located in Coleford

The natural patterns and colours of the Royal Forest Pennant stone are unique to the Forest of Dean quarry and provide a striking look for any paving area.

The stone has a combination of blue and mixed colour properties, providing an interesting marbled effect, and products produced from this stone will show variations in finish and colour, adding to its high-quality and natural character.

Commenting on the company's expansion, Katherine Robinson, director at Formpave, said, "We have been keen to enter the natural stone market for some time, hoping to offer a unique, traditional Gloucestershire Pennant Paving".

"This British stone has been used for hundreds of years to pave cities such as Bath, Bristol, Exeter, Cardiff and London".

"It is particularly suitable for internal and external use on projects of historical importance".

The Royal Forest Pennant natural stone is quarried and sawn in the Forest of Dean using the traditional plug and feather method that reduces the risk of fracture.

The stone is diamond sawn into random lengths with three standard gauge widths, 300, 450 and 600mm.

The paving is typically supplied in a 50mm thickness but other thicknesses are available to special order along with kerbs and ancillaries.

Smaller sizes of paving, such as 100x100mm, 200x100mm or 200x200mm can also be produced.

Royal Forest Pennant stone has a naturally hard-wearing surface with a good slip skid resistance, however the paving can also be specified with a shot blasted finish which provides a USRV of 98, as well as a varied appearance.

Natural Pennant stone from the Royal Forest of Dean in Gloucestershire has been used as a traditional building and paving material for hundreds of years on projects in the South of England and South Wales, including Hampton Court and the interior of St Johns and Exeter Colleges at Oxford University.

More recently Pennant Paving has been laid at the Cheltenham Ladies College, Cardiff Memorial Park, and Bristol and Gloucester Docks.
