Hanson Formpave supplied George Wimpey with its leading Aquaflow permeable paving and Chartres paving at its prestigious Manor Grove site in Tavistock, Devon.

An area in excess of 2000 sq.m of paving has been installed onsite to-date, providing car parking areas and roadways across the development Manor Grove is a beautiful development close to the historic town of Tavistock consisting of 2, 3 and 4 bedroom homes all with garages, combing luxury and style with design-led kitchens, en-suites and bathrooms

Taking a fresh look at how best to achieve a sustainable built environment, Steve Baker, engineering manager at George Wimpey Bristol said, "In light of current climate change issues, we were keen to use permeable paving to ensure rainfall and rainwater run-off could be controlled in an environmentally efficient and sustainable way".

"Various Hanson Formpave paving products were specified and we are delighted with the result".

"Both the Aquaflow permeable pavers and the Chartres large blocks provide a sustainable and affordable paving system for the adopted and private roadways, and parking areas".

"The result is an aesthetically pleasing and affordable solution that delivers the important environmental benefits we were looking for in the built environment".

The Manor Grove project has benefited from a sustainable paving solution with high importance placed on the environmental aspects of urban development and climate impact.

The installation comprised the Aquaflow Aquasett Traditional large block variant with an infiltration system.

The Chartres range is manufactured with an olden finish and has been specifically designed for use in conservation areas or where architectural heritage is a consideration.

The cottage-style housing favoured the Pennant variant with its attractive charcoal and natural grey finish, which blended well with the Aquaflow products.

The Aquaflow permeable brand and Sustainable Urban Drainage System (SUDS) provide an affordable solution to the challenges of storm water disposal and treatment, water conservation, recycling and reuse.

At the George Wimpey site, the system allows rain to infiltrate through a permeable concrete block paved surface into a unique stone sub-base where it is cleaned, by filtration and microbial action, before being released in a controlled manner into sewers or water courses, or infiltrated directly into the sub-grade.

The system can also be used to harvest and reuse all water that falls on hard surfaces such as roofs and car parks, representing additional environmental benefits and cost savings.

A world authority in the field of sustainable urban drainage systems (SUDS), Hanson Formpave first introduced permeable paving to the UK market 12 years ago and through an extensive RandD programme continues to pioneer and lead this market.

Every aspect of its permeable paving system has been independently tested and verified - both in terms of pollution control properties and hydraulic and structural performance.
