Foster Yeoman Contracting has been awarded a prestigious Gold Award from RoSPA in recognition of its continually improving health and safety performance.
Foster Yeoman Contracting (FYC),the motorway and highway surfacing specialist, has been awarded a prestigious Gold Award from the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) in recognition of its continually improving health and safety performance The RoSPA Gold, Silver and Bronze Awards are presented annually to organisations with a proven record of ongoing improvements in health and safety performance

A market leader in the manufacture of all types of asphalt, Foster Yeoman selected Rota Val rotary valves for a key part of its plant in Somerset.
"This includes the development of health and safety management systems which compliment the operations of the business, the implementation of an extensive training and competence policy and the raising of general health and safety awareness within the business through the use of specialist management techniques".
FYC's success is significant for the contracting industry in general, which is under pressure to improve a relatively poor safety record, but also for FYC's parent company Foster Yeoman Limited, the largest independent quarry company in Europe, who have recently reinforced their own commitment to environment and safety by implementing a new health and safety policy.
Foster Yeoman has set an unprecedented target of reducing its reportable accidents by 50% year on year for the next five years.
If successful, Foster Yeoman will reduce its reportable accidents to one a year by 2010.
According to Foster Yeoman Company Chairman David Tidmarsh, FYC's RoSPA success not only demonstrates their commitment to effectively manage health and safety at work, but also reinforces the message that "Safety is good business" Foster Yeoman Contracting is now one of the most respected contracting companies in England with a turnover in excess of GBP 35million pa.
"Our staff and subcontractors all proactively contribute to maintaining health and safety standards making us a good company to do business with and a good company to work for," Tidmarsh added.
"The RoSPA Gold Award will raise awareness of our health and safety profile both internally and externally".
The RoSPA Occupational Health and Safety Awards will take place later this month during the Safety and Health at Work Congress 2005 in Birmingham.
