Framing Solutions has launched Surebuild 3, possibly the most advanced version of UK's most widely specified light steel framing system for new house building and multi-storey residential constructio

Framing Solutions has also invested £750,000 in state-of-the-art production equipment and a new, fully-integrated parametric 3D CAD/CAM design system by Vertex Systems The firm, established in September 2002 as a joint venture by Corus and Redrow, claims its component production systems at Swadlincote, Derbyshire are now among the most advanced of their type in the UK

Surebuild 3 is the result of 20 years of site experience and development, incorporating feedback from contractors and developers across the UK.

It can now be specified for structures above five storeys high and with even greater design flexibility due to the availability of a wider range of stud and channel options.

As well as being stronger and lighter than ever before, Surebuild 3, says managing director Andy Robertson, delivers what house builders want but rarely get from other framing systems: performance, predictability and design flexibility through the use of modern, flexible manufacturing techniques.

Surebuild has moved into its next evolutionary stage, with numerous improvements in the system design and manufacture, building on the know-how gained from thousands of Surebuild structures.

For example, a typical Surebuild 3 structure will be up to 20% lighter than its predecessor, reducing foundation requirements and therefore costs, as well as easing the erection processes on site.

High precision production techniques allow us to deliver predictability and certainty to the building process, the 'Holy Grail' for contractors.

This now comes as standard with Surebuild 3.

Design and manufacturing functions at Swadlincote are now fully integrated.

Production staff no longer have to rely on drawings, which are subject to interpretation, as digital design data is transferred directly to the manufacturing equipment using the new Vertex CAD/CAM software, leading to greater efficiency.

The system also helps increase design accuracy and reduce design lead times by up to 20%.

The choice of stud size and steel gauge in Surebuild 3 has been increased to include 50mm and 100mm deep channels and studs, in addition to the 75mm section, in galvanised steel gauges from 0.8mm to 2.0mm.

In addition to standard service holes, bespoke service runs may also be accommodated at the design stage.

These are automatically punched during stud manufacture, provide optimum routes for services, increasing the efficiency of follow-on trades and further speeding up the build process.

* Other improvements in Surebuild 3 include: * Taped insulation joints, improving building air tightness * Improved internal bracing details and fewer components * Increased design and product flexibility due to wider range of stud options * Flush connections and joints increasing plasterboard efficiency * Wall and floor details which satisfy requirements of new Part E of The Building Regulations * Easy integration with hot rolled structural steel components.
