Constructing A Qualified Industry Workforce

Stourport-on-Severn based Forum Training is looking to encourage women into their workforce for this project.
Having recognised the barriers that deter women from working within the construction industry Forum has addressed them by offering creche facilities, flexible working hours and separate female and male facilities.
Co-ordinating the scheme, Forum Training will be responsible for the recruitment and training process with both practical on-site training being offered as well as health and safety assessment, with an NVQ in kitchen and bathroom fitting being obtained on completion of the project.
Jayne Sloan, Director of Forum Training, comments: "With research indicating that women make up less than one per cent of construction workers (CITB) Forum Training is actively trying to encourage more women into the construction industry and to provide a more diverse workforce.
We feel that women have a great deal to offer to the construction industry given the fact that women are good communicators, take pride in their work, aware of health and safety issues as well as forming a more balanced working culture on site.
By the year 2010 Forum would like to see a dramatic increase of the number pursuing a career in the construction industry and this initiative is a positive step towards to achieving that.".
