Boddingtons grass reinforcement for Twycross Zoo

A Fiberweb Geosynthetics product story
Edited by the Buildingtalk editorial team Jul 1, 2009

Boddingtons Limited have secured their largest 'Grass Reinforcement Solutions' order to date, supplying Twycross Zoo with GrassProtecta and BodPave.

The zoo in Warwickshire have been supplied with 42,000m of the heavy duty plastic grass reinforcement mesh and 6720m of BodPave paving grids.

GrassProtecta was installed to reinforce their grass car parks.

BodPave was installed to provide reinforcement for their coach parking facilities and access routes.

The grids were filled with an angular gravel which offered a strong reinforced naturally draining surface.

Both products were part of the redevelopment at their new multi-million pound visitor centre.

Construction of the visitor centre meant that redevelopment of the car parking facilities was required whilst satisfying environmental planning restrictions in the rural environment.

GrassProtecta and BodPave offered the ideal SUDS 'source control' solution and a natural grassed finish, capable of catering for in excess of 450,000 visitors per year.

GrassProtecta is a unique thick extruded plastic mesh that is designed to be installed directly onto an existing grass surface.

The mesh allows the grass to grow through its apertures and the roots intertwine with the mesh filaments.

With a few weeks of the growing season the mesh will have full disappeared creating a natural grass surface capable of reducing grass wear, smearing and rutting.

Applications include overflow car parks, disabled access paths and pedestrian access areas.
