Gensler, as part of the Las Vegas Monorail Team, has been retained to design and construct a four-mile, seven-station extension to the MGM-Bally's Monorail.

Global design firm Gensler, as part of the Las Vegas Monorail Team, has been retained to design and construct a four-mile, seven-station extension to the MGM-Bally's Monorail The project, funded and operated by a private sector venture that was recently awarded an exclusive franchise by Clark County, Nevada, will be completed in three and one-half years

Gensler is responsible for the design and documentation of the fixed facilities, including the five new and two renovated monorail stations, the operations and maintenance facility, support and ancillary structures, and system-wide graphics and information systems.

Gensler provided a wide range of pre-design services to assist the client in understanding the magnitude of the project, to gain consensus in the community and approvals from the County and the State, and to assist Salomon Smith Barney in packaging the prospectus for financing the project.

These services included a series of computer visualizations, computer animation over live action video footage, and brochures and public relations material.

JF Finn, Gensler Senior Associate and Lead Architectural Designer for the project stated: "It's an incredible opportunity for the Las Vegas community, as well as communities all over the country looking to develop state of the art urban transit".

"The cooperation between the public and private sectors in Las Vegas is an extremely innovative business model".

"We will see more of this type of partnership for large-scale, public serving projects in the near future ".

In 1996, Gensler designed a one-mile long segment for MGM-Bally's Monorail, connecting the two hotels in a shuttle configuration.

Gensler provided design and documentation services for the two elevated monorail stations and the operations and maintenance facility, graphics and information systems, and the graphic design concepts for the vehicles.

The project was completed on budget and ahead of the aggressive 18-month design and construction schedule.

The Las Vegas Monorail is one of the first urban public transportation systems to be privately financed and operated, and features numerous innovations in financing, management and transportation system operations.

The Las Vegas Monorail Team is a design / build / operate / finance venture of some of the leading transportation companies in the country.

The Team is currently working with the Regional Transportation Commission and the City of Las Vegas to begin an extension of the system to Downtown Las Vegas, and potentially to Las Vegas' McCarran International Airport.
