The site is immediately south of Mecanoo's re-planning of the 1960s Van den Broeck and Bakema master plan for Delft Technical University.

The Gensler master plan is conceived as a synergy between the academic world of the university and the commercial aspects of the Research and Development Zone.

Through analysis and benchmarking, and sustainable design, the Gensler master plan aims to break down the paradigm of the formulaic 'science park' and develop a world-class standard for future development.

The client stakeholders comprise the Technical University Delft, the Municipality of Delft, ING Real Estate Development and Bouwfonds Property Management (an ABN Amro Company).

When informing Gensler's David Bartlett of their decision, Ilona Nieuwenburg of ING said, "Gensler made the decision easy for us".

Gensler win Master planning project for Technical University Delft South Research and Development Zone Gensler presented conceptual approaches that analysed the economic, spatial and cultural potential of the site.

The master plan will provide a flexible, expandable set of accommodation nodes to form a network within the wider matrix of the Technical University activity.

It will relate to the historic centre of Delft and to the Mecanoo master plan with spaces created for interactivity and exchange and an interconnecting web of buildings, landscaped spaces, watercourses and public movement corridors.
