Gleeds has won the role to provide Cost Management services to the high profile Martineau Galleries and Snow Hill mixed-use developments in Birmingham.

Based at 3 Broadway, Broad Street, Gleeds has been appointed by Birmingham Alliance in the GBP600million Martineau Galleries mixed-use scheme, a critical development that will provide a link from the existing retail hub of the city centre to Birmingham's Eastside, as part of a larger regeneration of the area Gleeds will also assist Ballymore Properties in the GBP250million mixed-use development of Snow Hill in the heart of the city

Situated adjacent to the Snow Hill railway station on Colmore Circus in the city centre, the mixed commercial, residential and retail Snow Hill scheme, totalling 1,400,000 sq ft is set to become one of the largest city centre redevelopment projects in Birmingham.

Arranged around five new public spaces incorporating landscaped squares, boulevards and piazzas, the development will feature 600,000 sq ft of high quality office accommodation within two striking towers, including retail units.

An additional 44 storey complex will comprise 332 residential apartments, plus a 170 bedroom five star hotel, complete with restaurants, bars and a 400 seat conference auditorium in a fourth tower.

Designed by Sidell Gibson and Glenn Howells Architects, the scheme has commenced on site with completion aimed for 2011.

Planning consent was received in March 2006 for the Martineau Galleries scheme, with work proposed to commence on site in 2009.

The 5.5 hectare site is located in the area previously occupied by the Masshouse Circus, a large intersection on the Queensway, and will incorporate 2.5million sq ft of retail led mixed-use space including over 800,000 sq ft of retail, 834 residential units, offices, leisure, cultural space and underground car parking.

Paul Brownsword, who manages Gleeds' Birmingham operation said, "We are extremely excited to have been given this opportunity to be involved in two of Birmingham's most highly prestigious developments".

"Birmingham is a vastly thriving city with the potential to become a world class city and we cannot wait to draw on our expertise in the area to ensure a successful outcome.".
