Gleeds to provide Cost Management and Project Management services for the GBP100m conversion of Grade I listed St Pancras Chambers in London.

Gleeds, the International Management and Construction Consultancy, has been appointed by Manhattan Loft Corporation (MLC) to provide Cost Management and Project Management services for the GBP100 million conversion of the Grade I listed St Pancras Chambers, London, where work has just begun The gothic style St Pancras Chambers, formerly the Midland Grand Hotel, is situated in front of the new International St Pancras Railway Station

Manhattan Loft Corporation are working with London and Continental Railways to convert and restore the magnificent building, that has been empty since the 1980's, into a 245 bedroom luxury hotel, complete with 67 modern apartments.

The original hotel will house 54 rooms while a new five storey extension will be created at the rear of the building to take care of the remaining hotel accommodation.

The works, to be carried out in accordance with National Heritage guidelines, will include faithfully restoring the principal public rooms on the lower floors together with refurbishing the spectacular existing staircase.

The upper floors will be converted to accommodate new modern apartments, with the design ensuring the retention of the dramatic 19th century ornate surroundings.

The scheme will take place across three phases, with phase one converting part of the existing St Pancras Chambers into residential apartments, whilst phase two will transform the remaining space into Hotel accommodation.

The last phase will involve the construction of a new Hotel to the West Wing of the building, with project completion aimed for 2011.

Ian Miller, Managing Partner at Gleeds Bristol, commenting on the new role said "We are delighted to have been given this fantastic opportunity to work on such an important and exciting project".

"The conversion of St Pancras Chambers is an extremely bold scheme that will completely transform the existing building into a magnificent hotel and enhances St Pancras as a world class destination.".
