Gleeds win role in regeneration development

Gleeds appointed by Menta to provide Cost Management services to the GBP500 million Cherry Orchard Road Development in Croydon.

Situated adjacent to East Croydon rail station across 1.7 hectares, the landmark mixed-use scheme will see the creation of four towers ranging from 23 to 52 storeys that will provide 1 million sq ft of residential space, incorporating a mixture of private and affordable housing, and 250,000 sq ft of office space.

As part of the regeneration scheme, a new public piazza and urban park will be created to form the main focal point of the development.

It will complement the surrounding area, and will include shops, bars and restaurants, uniting the existing bus, taxi and tram services with East Croydon station.

Designed with an aspiration to achieve a BREEAM 'Excellent' rating for both retail and office spaces and Code for Sustainable Homes 'Level 4' rating for the residential space, the four towers have complex faandccedil;ade solutions formed from sloping triangular panels optimised to reduce energy consumption within the space.

The project will seek to reduce the overall carbon emissions to an exemplar standard via the installation of a combination of passive design, best practice energy efficiency and on-site renewable technologies within a central energy centre.

A planning application is due to be submitted later this summer and subject to consent being granted the project is due to start construction later this year.
