Virgin chief praises Gleeds project
Project undertaken by Gleeds at the University of Derby has been praised by Virgin chief Sir Richard Branson.
Following the opening of the new GBP21 million Arts, Design and Technology building at the University of Derby, Gleeds has been appointed to carry out Quantity Surveyor services on the GBP6 million new Business School Branson described the new facilities at the University as "Innovative with an open and light design." He also went on to add, "I'm delighted to be able to return to Derby to open this amazing facility for the country's future designers"

Gleeds acted as Cost Managers to deliver a new bespoke faculty building, providing accommodation for creative and performing arts, design, media and technology at the University of Derby.
The new Markeaton Street facility is home to 3,000 students and incorporates four auditoriums, specialist photographic laboratories, a number of art and design studios, music technology laboratories; an Apple accredited training centre, and an open studio research centre.
Markeaton Street from the outset was designed to incorporate sustainable low energy features at its core, creating an architecturally innovative building that is also ecologically sustainable and envirnomentally friendly.
Praised for its state-of-the-art modern facilities, the new faculty forms part of the University's Quarter in the West End of the city.
Stuart Senior, Managing Partner at Gleeds Nottingham, commenting on the project said, "We are delighted that Sir Richard has recognised the importance of the project and the clients have now appointed us to the second phase of the development".
"The new design and arts facility has a strong focus on sustainability, something of which we at Gleeds have a growing expertise.".
