Gleeds has been appointed as Commercial Managers on the construction of a new $3.2 billion mixed use development in the state of Qatar.

They are the only UK management consultancy with a significant role on this project Al Wa'ab City is one of the largest privately owned real estate projects in the Middle East and is built to the south west of central Doha

It will be home to over 8,000 residents situated in over 2,000 Villa and Apartment units occupying 1.25 million square meters and it includes a retail area centred around a piazza called Barahat Al Wa'ab, which at 44,000 square meters is equivalent in size to seven International football pitches.

The promoters are Nasser Bin Khalid Holdings' and the developer is Al Wa'ab City.

The mixed use development consists of 100,000 square meters of retail space, and over 200,000 square meters of commercial area, in addition to the residential accommodation.

It also includes a 5 star 200 room hotel.

This is the first project of its kind for the area and is intended to be regarded as a benchmark for high end residential development.

It aims to have the lowest population density ratio of any new major development in the country.

Alan Turner, Managing Director, Gleeds Gulf said, "This is a fantastic opportunity for us to manage all aspects of the commercial development of this stunning project.

We are working with a team drawn from all over the world which includes Middle East contractors Arabtec and North American architects and Project Managers Cansult Maunsell AECOM".

The contract is being set up on the NEC3 suite of contracts and is one of the first major developments in the Middle East to benefit from this new form of contract".

Al Wa'ab City is also employing the latest sustainability techniques in its building programme, vital in an area which has extreme temperatures and a shortage of natural materials.
