'Royal' racecourse re-opened in style providing an impressive showcase for Glass UK's Glass FX glass painting process.
The canopy is 6.0m wide by 8.0m deep, and is made up of 32 individual panels, each an impressive 3.2m x 1.6m of toughened, laminated glass.
The canopy replaces an older, smaller structure with just a single sheet of glass that was deemed possibly too thin and a potential Health and Safety hazard.
The new design, which features a level centre span, with uptilted 'fly-away' side panels, was created by Metal UK along with the design for the support structure of shallow triangular cross members.
"As a whole, the canopy has a very stylish aerodynamic feel to it," said Neil Sharda, Glass UK's General Manager, "and I think it represents an excellent example of collaborative glass manufacturing and structural design between Glass and Metal UK".
Some of the glazing immediately above the entrance has been silk screen painted, to provide an element of shade for anyone waiting to be picked up by car or taxi.
Meanwhile at Virgin's new London Heathrow Clubhouse, Glass UK has worked closely with installation experts, Glass by Design, to supply a huge number of oversized solar controlled structural glazed units - each called-off at 4.9m x 2.7m and weighing-in at 700kg.
each.
Glass UK used a St Gobain Antilio Clear EN 1279 for this contract, which called for an exceptionally fast turn-round of two weeks.
The argon-filled glazing units have a Ritec Clearshield Low M coating.
"This represents another contract for a high profile client", said Neil Sharda.
"There's a lot happening at Heathrow for us at the moment.
In part it's work like these two contracts that are paying dividends, but also our name is becoming known amongst contractors on-site and word of mouth recommendation is a wonderful thing!".
