Gradus helps willows residents feel at home
Fabrics from Gradus have been fitted throughout a new extension at the Willows Nursing Home, Chester, providing a home from home feel to the interior.
Working alongside Cambian's interior design consultant, Mark Himbury of Mark Himbury Design, Gradus provided all of the fabrics for the curtains, blinds, bedding and chair upholstery throughout the project including bedrooms, living areas, bathrooms and offices.
The aim was to achieve a sophisticated look to help move away from the traditional, institutional-style care home while, at the same time, creating a peaceful atmosphere.
In order to achieve this, the team stayed away from heavily patterned fabrics and specified subtle designs in calming colours.

Gradus fabrics anti-microbial range
New curtain design, sourced specifically for the hospital and printed on Gradus' X-Static anti-microbial fabric is planned to be implemented across every ward.
For the bedroom curtains, forty-five metres of fire-retardant cotton Matrix, a modern geometric design from the Natural Aspects range, was specified and re-coloured according to the customer's requirements in soft brown with blues and creams to match the cream painted walls.
Duvet covers and quilted bedspreads were selected in a coffee-coloured semi-plain design called Salisbury, to co-ordinate with the overall design scheme.
Similarly, for the living area, kitchen and foyer twenty-five metres of design Elgar from the Fanfare range of Trevira flame-retardant polyesters was specified, using the same soothing soft beige and brown colours as the bedrooms.
To finish, the chairs in the bedroom and living areas were upholstered in co-ordinating textured weaves, Portofino and Amalfi.
While all the fabric designs were chosen for their contemporary style and their neutral colours, they are also, importantly, hard-wearing and easy-clean to ensure the interiors continue to look good.
Mark Himbury, design consultant for Cambian commented, We wanted a subtle, modern range that would not date, so we chose natural colours to create a calming atmosphere.
We managed to create a high finish environment that is as functional and hardwearing as it is aesthetically pleasing and we are delighted with the results achieved on this project.
Pamela Cairns from Gradus Fabrics commented: We all know how colour can affect our moods so selecting the right colours is really important and can make a difference to people who have psychiatric illnesses.
